Things You Will Need
It is helpful to get all of the items that you will need first and have them handy so that you do not have to keep stopping.
- Court-sweep or household broom
- Leaf blower (optional)
- Squeegee broom
- Water hose
- High pressure nozzle
- Detergent of soap
Directions
-
Begin your tennis court cleaning by clearing any debris of the court using your broom. This includes leaves, insects and trash. It is easiest to start in the middle of your court and push everything towards the outer perimeter.
- If you have a leaf blower then clean the net area or else you will need to use your broom to dust any debris loose.
- The next step in your tennis court cleaning is to wash the court. The easiest way to do this is to drizzle detergent around the court, paying close attention to the lines and then use your hose with your high power nozzle to suds everything up. You can use the water stream to force any left over debris off of the court.
- Allow the court to dry a bit and go over it all again. You may find it easiest to work in a circle, traveling around the court.
- After the court has been allowed to dry you will want to inspect the entire surface for any mildew, algae or mold. If there are issues then you will want to apply a cleaning agent that is designed specifically to remove such problems. After cleaning, you should make a point to reinspect these problem areas often to be sure the issues do not come back.
Clay Court Maintenance
If you have a clay court then your tennis court cleaning routine needs to be a bit more frequent and a lot more thorough. You will need a lute-scarifier, which looks very much like a rake, to loosen up and level the surface. It is also helpful to have a drag brush that removes debris. When the teeth are face down, it works to remove debris and then when the teeth are facing up, it levels the court.
You will need to clean and inspect your clay court daily. It is also important that you water the clay court after it is used to keep it from drying out and cracking. Every night when you brush the court you will want to alternate different directions and pay close attention to the baseline areas since they take the biggest beating during play. It is a lot more work to keep a clay court in shape but daily attention to it will assure that your court will offer you service for many years.
